Courier Service Driver Safety & TSA Compliance Plan

AERO Driver Safety Program - safety first

1. Driver Vetting & Compliance- All drivers must undergo and maintain a valid TSA Security Threat Assessment (STA).-  Background checks: criminal history, MVR, and drug/alcohol screening prior to hire and annually. - Ensure drivers maintain valid licenses and endorsements as required.- Maintain proof of TSA and DOT training for each driver.

 

2. Driver Training & Certification- TSA cargo screening awareness training: chain-of-custody, seals, handling screened cargo. - Hazmat training per 49 CFR (if applicable).- Defensive driving, fatigue management, emergency response training.- Annual refresher courses covering TSA updates and safety protocols.

 

3. Vehicle Safety & Security- Pre- and post-trip inspections: brakes, tires, lights, locks, seals, cargo space integrity.- GPS tracking & geofencing for route monitoring.- Tamper-evident seals required for all screened cargo.- Emergency equipment in vehicles: fire extinguisher, first aid kit, spill kit, reflective triangles.

 

4. Cargo Security Procedures- Chain of custody documentation at pick-up and delivery.- Screened cargo sealed at Certified Cargo Screening Facility (CCSF) until delivery. - Only STA-cleared employees may handle screened cargo.- High-value cargo: escort policies, dual-driver operations, or direct routing.

 

5. Driver Conduct & Fatigue Management- Zero tolerance for drugs/alcohol in compliance with DOT/TSA rules. - Hours of service compliance with ELD/logbook monitoring.- Two-driver system for sensitive TSA shipments if required.- Drivers must check in regularly and report irregularities immediately.

 

6. Incident Response & Reporting- Drivers must notify dispatch/TSA of seal breaches, theft, suspicious activity, or accidents. - Accident procedures: secure scene, call 911, protect cargo, notify Safety Officer.- Incident reports completed within 24 hours; filed with TSA if required.

 

7. Auditing & Continuous Improvement- Quarterly internal audits on logs, security, and maintenance.- Random TSA mock inspections to prepare for unannounced visits. - Driver safety committees to improve policies.- Corrective action plans for incidents or non-compliance.
